I was fascinated with the WSJ article on Marimba today. This is a clear move by MSFT to start real execution of its "zero administration" initiative. I think that the standard is healthy; if it actually works, it would enable transparent upgrades of "fat clients" from central network servers. I think that this is MSFT's way of attacking a key advantage of Java, which is centralized administration.

It's interesting that some of Marimba's founders are ex SUNW people. There are many ways to skin a cat . . . Fat client or thin, there is serious money to be made in technology which reduces PC maintainance costs.
