In this part of the world, Christianity is on the giving side of that equation since magnanimity is a gift from the powerful to the underdog. In this part of the world, the underdog is the Muslims, not the Christians, who have the undisputed upper hand.

People who are committed to a conservative version of Christianity don't really have the upper hand here. I'm not saying that atheists or Buddhists do but the constitution and the laws and the legal culture are predominantly secular, popular entertainment is sometimes neutral and other times at least subtly hostile to conservative churches. I'm not saying the churches have no power and no supporters, they have lots of members and other people who at least respect them, but certainly most of the members don't see themselves as having the upper hand and its not unreasonable for them to think that.
