but since an engineering workforce is an investment, and expensive to maintain in the US, options mitigated those costs. Therefore the good outweighed the bad, for a time. Nothing invalid in that stance

but it's totally invalid, because options ARE a cost. if you don't understand that then you haven't really come around to why they should be expensed. nobody says options can't be given; only that they should be recognized as the compensation that they are.
