Edwards is defacto leader but McCaulliffe is scared of trial lawyer hurting contributions to the party by the usual lobby groups who give to both sides. Those folks hate edwards because he is running against them. So although Edwards leads, he is not what the democrats who matter want to put up there. Also Dean is in still in the race and he is likely to get back some of support he lost to kerry. That is also a dem nightmare. So Hillary rides to the rescue and maybe dean or edwards get veep as a reward for being the first to throw his support to her. Its like when the first criminal who rats out buddies gets a deal from prosecutor. Edwards understands that so i would expect that he might gladly support clinton for veep spot which makes him prime candidate in four years if she loses badly or #1 pres candidate if god forbid she wins. mike
