Right. Here is the maze... I have 25K in securities. I sell. The securities are waiting 3 to 5 days to settle. But if I open a margin account Etrade lets me buy securities from my 25K on margin. The trades settle and I now own securities on margin paying interest on my "loan". I still only have 25K in securities but I am paying interest on the money I borrowed from myself on margin and have no cash. get it? This is how E*trade changed in January. I guess they don't want us to trade frequently anymore...even though that's how they make their money????
