It will be interesting to see how it all works out. When we depend on fabs being built in a country that is far more corrupt that our own PLUS they don't respect IP, you have to wonder...

My guess is Agilent, XLNX, ALTR and other companies using the fabless model make sure they have solid partnerships. They might demand their chips be made in countries that respect IP, but what happens if their IP suddenly starts to show in China, built on a black market of sorts with no clear links the companies they have agreements with, to support the internal Chinese market?

What happens to a TSMC trained fab engineer who learns how to build a hot graphics chip but then quits and moves to mainland China to build competing chips there on a fab that doesn't respect IP? We have pretty good laws to prevent this in the US...

How would a company solve this problem but to bring fabs back to US shores.... THis would actualy mean more fab equipment would be sold... hmmm...
