It is all a part of the continuing shift in segments of our society from placing the good of society at large as a paramount goal of one's life to placing individual desire as the paramount goal of one's life.

This is not a new trend. Societies have seen it before, and have been destroyed by it. It will take a major disintigration of society, and several decades (if not centuries) to reverse. We haven't yet reached the nadir of that disintigration yet; I see it as being about 30 to 50 years away, though it may come sooner than that.

Once a society gets into this spiral, it is irreversible. And we are well into it. So the best we can do is hang on for the ride. It's going to get rough out there.
