Vans, Inc. Announces Update on Retail Store Expansion Program

SANTA FE SPRINGS, California--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--August 15, 1997-- Vans, Inc. (Nasdaq:VANS) today
announced an update on the Company's retail store expansion
plans. On August 14, the Company opened its newest factory
outlet in Kansas City, Kansas. The 2,400 square foot facility is
located in the Great Mall of the Great Plains. The Company also
noted that it successfully opened factory outlets in Bellport, Long
Island and Riverhead, New York in July, and will open new outlets
in the fall in Wrentham, MA and Pigeon Forge, TN. This brings
the total of new stores to nine for the year, versus the five
previously announced.
``Our retail stores continue to post double-digit comparable store
gains, with strong performance in both our full-price and outlet
stores. We now have 19 outlet locations outside of California,
which are performing very well,'' said Gary H. Schoenfeld,
President and Chief Executive Officer. ``We are excited about the
opportunity to further build awareness of the VANS brand in new
markets like Kansas City.''
