Actually, cancer drugs are relatively small dollar value drugs. The reason for this is two-fold. First, cancer is really a variety of different diseases, such that a drug that works for cancer A will likely not work for cancer B. Second, when you treat a cancer patient, they are either cured or they die. Thus, your drug is limited in terms of the time for which it can be given. A much better cancer drug (at least from the companies perspective) would be one that controls the cancer without killing it. Then, you would be hooked on the drug until you die from something else. This latter reason is primarily why most cancer drugs have a max. market of low hundred million.
