Half my family came from England(in 1867) so I have a special place in my heart for them. However, that particular writer doesn't have a clue about how Americans actually feel this election yr. We might have been respected in 50s but certainly were not concerned with blending in & never will be.(Are you researching this history from a 20y/o social studies textbook?) We don't mind getting along with friends BUT that's a far cry from blending. America was founded by strong-willed, independent, courageous European immigrants and that heritage won't permit us to destroy those wonderful American qualities by simply blending into the rest of the world. It's possible to be peaceful & loving without becoming bland lemmings. Freedom fries is a much more appropriate name...they even taste better with that name. Why should we honor the French when they refused to help with Saddam Hussein. Their only concern was to line their own pockets from contracts with that murderer. One more thought: we could not care less about the opinions of other nations, as long as we know we're doing the right thing....and we definitely are doing just that. Those you say are laughing today were crying with grateful happiness when American GIs freed them from Hitler's clutches.
