In his departure speech, Eisenhower warned the American people beware the military industrial complex.

I've really struggled to find a reason for the war in Iraq, it just never made sense. But when you look at it as a business venture, with the defense contractors and their $Billions on the front side, the $Billions for troop support operations from HAL during the war, the $Billion for HAL and others for rebuilding, and the subsequent business opportunities in Iraq, it makes perfect sense. (Of course this is all paid for by the taxpayer).

Iraq is exactly what Eisenhower warned us about. A very good article:
