I posted a while back that the best thing might be to have a Democrat as President for the duration for just the reasons Friedman describes. For those who favor US intervention, it took Bush to get us in, but we might get a better outcome with a more "nuanced" approach to finishing the job. It seems obvious to me that what Friedman describes would be the tack than a Democratic President would take, more or less. That's why I responded tartly to LB yesterday when he threw out that old chestnut about cutting and running. If "America's enemies are currently hearing only weakness from the Democratic camp," it's partly because so many American's on the right are proclaiming it for partisan purposes.
