while i certainly wouldn't give it a high probability, i don't think that it's absurd to think that MSFT could end up being a white knight for DIS

MSFT has a ton of cash on hand and has been criticized for not doing something beneficial to shareholders with it...add the fact that they would be seen in a positive light serving as a white knight, and the fact that DIS has extremely valuable assets which have been poorly managed and have suffered due to external factors, and they might see it as an attractive way to expand their empire in media and by combining the various resources and properties

MSFT could buy DIS for combined stock, cash and assumed debt, and put a chunk of that cash to use in a move that would be immediately accretive since that cash earns them a paltry return right now (they could also take out a loan for enough cash to make the whole purchase with cash and assumption of DIS debt, and thus completely avoid dilution...whatever amount they borrowed could be paid back in short order with the cash the combined company would generate)

interesting to think about even if it never leads to anything...other than pay big dividends, which they will never do IMHO, the only thing MSFT can do with their cash that will mean anything is to make a big acquisition...if you had bill gates' (MSFT's) money, why not just buy disneyland? every kid's dream come true ;)
