Good point in re the Oct '02 vote, Kerry got suckered .... along with many, many others ... there's a trust thing comes in here, you don't want to believe the leader of your country is scamming you, not on something that serious .... Bush and company were saying they wanted a strongly worded resolution as a bargaining chip, they'd said much the same thing to the UNSC in the Oct vote there, definitely were not forthright about wanting war no matter what .... well, live and learn, i don't think this tars Kerry forever ... remember how he had the smarts and the guts to change his views on Viet Nam - he was just a kid on arriving there, no doubt fully accepting of the party line du jour, yet was able to learn from experience

Yeah, you were there in the thick of it, eh .... i was on the edges, never was a fan of cities ... as to exact VVAW history, you likely know better, however it was Kerry who was able to get the issue on mainstream news in a fashion acceptable to wider audiences, as i recall ..... and a friend here who is fully familiar with detail says he definitely left VVAW after quite a brief time due to other members' radical leftist policies unrelated to the war, or marginally related [maybe you and i can agree to disagree on this, as you'd describe yourself as leftie, and i'm not] ... it is true though, that '71 was well on into the course of the anti-war movement, by that time i'd known dodgers for three or four years, and at least one vet for two [same guy with us yesterday]

Kerry didn't stop there, though - when he first got to the Senate, he had the guts to stand up against what Reagan was doing to Nicaragua ..... remember all the lies of that time, 'commie tanks seventy-two hours from Texas bla bla', remember how Reagan tried to frame Ortega et al with dealing coke, when it was actually the contras who were the narcotraficantes, using US-supplied aircraft? .... Kerry not only stood up to that, called for investigation of it, but he managed to convince of the need for investigation, surprise, one Jesse Helms ..... first part of this article has an overview of that time - boston.com

So who would you have as US president, Ray? .... realistically speaking .... for what it's worth, it's been a long long time since i've seen a candidate in either the US or Canada who was ideal, perfect, unblemished .... never, really, which is only logical, as they tend to be human beings, and thusly flawed ..... thing is to find the least worst individual for the job, and as events have demonstrated over the last few years, that ain't Bush ... so, who's your least-worst pick? ..... cheers
