CR, at that time we had no way of knowing that our intelligence was flawed. Every American, based on past experience with Iraq in 1991 and based on what our President told us was apprehensive that chemical weapons would be used against the US forces during their March on Baghdad.

Paul O'Neil said it correctly when he said that from day 1 trhe Bush White House had a plan to attack Iraq. it was not the intelligence flaw, though the report that the intelligence did not say "imminent threat."

So when Dean attacked the President and proclaimed that he opposed the war from day one, he lost credibility with most people.

However as you rightly say, what did Dean in was when he changed his focus from the issues.

Also "it ain't done till it is done." I think Dean failed to grasp the truth of that statement. I hope Kerry will keep this foremost in his mind and not allow himself to become another Dean. I hope he will keep himself focussed and not adopt a demeanor of a President before the elections in Nov 2004.
