Ah, naive young Alex, good luck in such an endeavor. While s/he's a student, the altruistic insurance co is likely to want to bind your deep pockets inextricably to your progeny's driving proclivities. I'm sure they are just trying to keep it in the family, such a noble approach. Monthly bus passes get old quickly, as they see their peers acquire hand-me-down cars or whatever. And by their teen years have figured out all the appropriate hot-buttons for stimulus/response parental behavior.

You should be adding cubic trunk displacement as a car selection metric for handling those out-sized bulk pampers packages you will be consuming in gross quantities soon. Also relative ease of inserting/adjusting and removing of child seats in front and rear vs potential for male back strain. Middle-age is when visions of sport cars are replaced by visions of sleepy Saturday afternoons upon a couch. Cherish the few remaining ones that you have left.

Been there.
