I said unhappiness with Bush's policy would be a catalyzing force, and apparently it really is:

Voters turning out in droves
That anger has pushed Democrats to the polls in record numbers. Out of the 14 states that voted so far, turnout was lower than expected in only two: Missouri and Oklahoma. Turnout was the highest on record in New Hampshire, and in North Dakota, participation in the state's Democratic caucuses multiplied fivefold from 2000.

"They're turning out in droves," said Rep. Louise M. Slaughter, D-Fairport, an early Kerry supporter. "They're angry over the loss of jobs and they're angry over the war. I saw it on television the other day when they were interviewing folks in a little town in Michigan where Electrolux had been and left. People were saying in the restaurants that they were going to vote Democratic - people who never voted Democratic in their lives."
