re:Sanctions were a better option than war. It was a know evil; going forward the war option will have many, many unintended results.

The operative word being "were" - they looked less and less effective with governments like Iraq and North Korea, that care nothing for their people. They would sacrafice a generation of children to achieve their military goals. Sanctions have rarely worked - although it may still be an effective tool in some cases I would not presume to claim it's completly worthless.

As for war having unintended results, they always do - nothing new here. However in Iraq today they now have three choices they didn't have before, Democracy, Theocracy or civil war.
