The country is about evenly divided between Dems and Reps (which is pretty amazing in and of itself) so a handful of voters in a couple of states (Florida and PA come to mind) could make all the difference this year. Unless one of the candidates implodes, this could be another 2000....a very close thing.

I'm not so sure it will be close. The popular vote will not be close imho, it will be a moratorium against Bush, we are seeing the kind of turnout we get from the primaries already. The "split vote" logic comes from a few states which were close in 2000 like FLA, OH, NV, MI, PA which will NOT be close in 04 imho. Unfortunately for Bush, the worst economic states are the close ones. He can't win there, even in the unlikely event TN and the Carolinas agree with his war policy.
