I find this particular cocaine story suspicious simply because it allegedly occurred in 1972. This was before cocaine had achieved it's later popularity.

I saw SuperFly at the drive-in movies about 1972.
Cocaine was expensive in 1972, but popular with those who could afford it. Perhaps fortunate for me, I was on a student's budget. I do recall the stores sold T-shirts that said Cocaine in a script that looked like Coca-Cola.

Just a few years later JJ Cale was singing:
