I usually come to the conclusion that someone who has an extra-marital affair is a cheater as well as a liar. He/she has cheated the family out of a stable future. He/she has cheated his/her children by creating an environment where they lose the ability to trust, and he/she has cheated society by reneging on the law of sociobiology and economics that carranza2 mentioned in his post.

The more interesting question is whether as a species we inherently understand all of that?
