You're fighting biology there, sister. Monogamy is a challenge to a creature with a low reproductive capacity. Sure, you get better offspring productivity if the male stays with the progeny, but that trade off of having lots of progeny is hard wired into our DNA- for males. It's a hawks and doves biology problem- and I realize the social side of our evolution has tried to change that wiring, but the wiring is a lot older than human civilization.
