Beyond skills (which we can assume all of the finalists have) we can only measure a candidate against our ability to trust him to stand on the principles of his platform and on the ideals of America's cause. If a candidate has entered into sacred vows to honor his spousal relationship above all others and has not only violated that vow but deceived the most significant and dependant people in his life, how then, can we expect to hold him to an oath of office?

Of course circumstances do matter. If it was an indescretion of youth and the guy has matured far beyond the event, then we should take that into consideration. If on the otherhand, we can see evidence of the presence of this kind of deceitful character in his recent or current conduct, we have cause to be cautious.
