Thank you for your post. I am just guessing as to the market, but of course, if the cost of a 25" plasma tv goes from $3000 to $800, by virtue of Intel's economy of scale, two things happen, both of which are good.
First the market itself expands. Entertainment is, after all an elastic demand curve.
Second the line between "TV" monitors and computer monitors blur. I am now running 5(!) Envision DIGITAL 19" flat panel monitors, and they are perfect. (narrow bezzel, 600:1 contrast ratio, I might add)
I paid, accidently, $400 per monitor, after rebates, from Costco. If everyone did that, it would cut the total cost of a single monitor system by $500 bucks. That might mean as much as a 25% discount to already current low prices. This would spur the replacement cycle demand for pcs.
HP and Intel and MS are coming out with a new "entertainment" pc, which takes advantage of that blurring.
Perhaps we will hear more about this at the IDC in a few days.
Plus, that gives us a better chance to us that capacity that we pissed away 21 Billion on in the last couple of years.
Plus, as has been previously suggested by others, it may be that the Prescott was released now BECAUSE intel needs the 130 nm capacity on the line for other purposes such as LCOS.
Wheels within wheels. :) |
