I wouldn't call the war a lapse of judgement. Maybe the earlier statements about WMD are, but I think its more likely they represent a lack of accurate info.

No problem with that. It would hardly be the first time...

It was the same guys in power now who provided aid to Saddam back in the '80s.

When it was feared that he would be overun by Iran. Also the US isn't even in the top 5 on the list of weapons providers to Saddam's military.
