What kind of "substance" is required before reporting that, say, one Presidential candidate is stating, "off the record," that another Presidential candidate has a problem stemming from a relationship with an intern?

Clark is alleged to have said this about Kerry one day, and endorsed him the next.

I, for one, think this has a great weight against Clark's credibility. I have no idependent knowledge as to whether Kerry has an intern problem or whether that's fabricated out of whole cloth.

Given that the Democrat mantra is "Bush knew", doesn't it seem relevant to judge what "Clark knew" or "Dean knew"? How well do they do in separating fact from fiction?
