"Because of the heterogeneous nature of its population and long standing emnity among those people Iraq is about the worst place to try to establish a democracy that would be an example to te rest of the me."

Most of the opposers of Bush have very little faith in the people in the middle east. Our President (along with myself) have confidence that people from all stripes of life can appreciate freedom.

"Iran would be much better but I get the sense they will end up getting there without much help from us."

We had no grounds to take out their leadership. And their internal population is in a battle over this right now. That is why their religious leaders are trying their best to disrupt our efforts in Iraq, and why it is all the more important for all freedom loving people to step up and insure that Iraq is a success. Iran will be one of the 1st to follow without the U.S. having to fire a shot.

"In some ways it all comes back to oil wealth and we as a nation have not shown the fortitude to stop being a customer and wean ourselves from oil"

There is no need to "wean ourselves from oil". Conserving is a good idea. But you anti-U.S. guys should learn that the automobile and associated industries have helped the world more than hurt it. Where would the mideast be if they had no oil revenue? I don't think you guys care about that. The reality of it is that oil is a key part of the world economy, and if the middle eastern countries operated in ways that did not concentrate all the wealth in the religious kingdoms or opressive dictators (let freedom and democracy work?), all in the world will be better off. The lies by the left that say that Bush is doing this to get his buddies rich is so juvenile and ridiculous it should not be taken seriously. Another charge with no proof.
