Second, TI has a competing solution, it's DSP (digital signal processing) chip, that's been on the market for ~8 months (?). Samsung and now other are using the chip to (mostly) rave reviews.

John, not to be too picky, but it's DLP for digital light processing. It's basically a chip with lots of tiny mirrors that reflect light.

I will likely be dropping about $4,500 on the Samsung 61" DLP shortly. I have spent a lot of time sitting in front of the various TVs at local stores and have to conclude that DLP is the best picture.

DLP has a few problems, mostly because the "cheaper" sets use only one chip and a tricolor light wheel. This can cause a rainbow effect and possibly migraine headaches in some users. If three chips are used, the problem becomes cost. It'll be interesting to see how TI responds with their pricing. Either way, it's good for consumers.
