JDN, I think you're barking up the wrong tree. The guy that wrote a book on him was on the tube the other day. He said that he interviewed the vets that served with Kerry. He expected to find at least one that was critical of Kerry. He couldn't find one. Each of them had the view that Kerry was the real deal. Kerry did his job with courage and had great judgement, especially under fire. He wasn't a glory seeker and was "one of the guys," not some kind of "sprinkled with officer dust" ass. As for the "time in the field" and the "picture taken" and "4 months," don't forget that he was an officer on a boat. You're thinking like a 13 months grunt but in 1969-70 in the 1st Cav, the tour of officers in the field was only 6 months and most served 4. Since he didn't hump all of his gear and since he was wealthy, he could afford to have more gear, including video and camera gear. We had one guy who took reams of pictures and then there were guys who packed only a wallet and toothbrush as personal gear. If we'd been on a boat we'd have packed a lot more stuff, including enough water for that last day before resupply! Be fair on this JDN. Unless ONE OF HIS GUYS diminishes his service, we should not. What we've done overseas is too important to diminish because of petty politics. It's ok to dislike the politics of Kerry without attacking his service. I know that you've been there and that you understand that.
