If we want to see Iraq as a true democracy then it will become a nation whose majority power will be Shiite muslim. Anything other will be a "puppet" regime. As we know, Shiites are theocratically and ideologically linked to Iran which last I heard was a member of the "axis of evil". Already the clerics are calling for the people to hit the streets (which they're doing) and demand a public election, not a caucus style moldable election process. If we really want to set up a true democracy then we'll be back to square 1 within a few years. Therein lies the rub...... <<But since you seem to regret that Saddam wasn't overthrown based upon humanitarian grounds, I guess you have to ask yourself where (and many others) were when we sat back and watched Saddam brutalize the Kurds and Shiites after the first war?>> Didn't I just say the same thing yesterday?!?!?!? p.s. I was also labeled a cynic and so were many others when doubts were professed about WMDs and links to Al Qaeda. Anyone that questions the process or expresses concerns with the current administration's policies seems to be a cynic. So be it......
