Moderate conservative and catholic, so pro-life but still popular in PA. Bush can hold the faithful without cheney who is now a lighting rod not only for dems but for indys too because of sleazy nature of halliburton govt dealings. Rummy and Ashy more important to hold on to any way and cheney can still be a valuable private advisor to bush. He has no ambition to be president and they can always use health as a legit excuse. Ridge has done a damn good job and most americans are thankful that things have improved. It seems perfect to me to insure bush reelection because many americans both lib and con may just blame bush for a dangerous situation in iraq plus no wmds. Give those folks some red meat and also give the repubs a guy who can add votes in industrial and border states as well as generally among catholic voters. Look at ridges face and think simon and garfunkel song the Boxer--a face only a mother can love but also a good guys who works 7X24 to keep america safe. Mike
