tejek,

re:Do you believe that globalization is happening

I guess I need a better definition of what you mean by globalization - if you simply mean we (i.e. most countries) are becoming more dependant on each other - yes. However, from my perspective it always looks like the USA leads in opening it's markets while others continue to protect theirs. Very obvious when I lived in Korea, US cars and most goods carried a 100% tax, even the Japanese goods where faced with this tax penalty. The beef market was closed long before mad cow as are most produce markets. A single banana cost 1000 won (about $1.20) when I arrived in 1989 and 100 won (.12 cents) when I left in 1997, they had finally opened up that domestic market to a South American supplier - ruined several hot house banana growers on Cheju Island. Farmers are respected above just about every other profession except teaching in Korea - it was a tough choice for them.

re:do you think its a bad or good thing?

It doesn't really matter, because I believe it's one of the basic laws of a free market - I don't think anyone can fight a lower cost producer for long. Not to wax philosophical, but it's neither good nor bad it just is - we have to adapt.

Of course politicians will try to slow the pain as their constituency will demand something be done. Like the timely news of Washington trying to award contracts only to local businesses. As a tax payer I want the most bang for my buck, as an employee I want a job - someone's not going to be happy with whatever eventually happens.
