Government today is amazingly powerful and well organized, and the citizenry is not. Freedom of speech is a bulwark against abuses by the government, and if you give that up, and allow the government to decided where you may speak (behind a fence, out of sight) you are kissing one of our constitutional freedoms goodbye. Not a good idea, imo.

It wasn't the government that went around destroying property and attacking innocent people at the WTO in Seattle 4 years ago it was the "protesters." These "protesters" did a huge disservice to the entire concept of protest and the meaning of "freedom of speech."

I'm sorry they ruined it for everyone, but I haven't read that anyone has the right to civil disobedience anywhere in the Constitution. And I certainly understand wanting to protect the POTUS from these kinds of protesters. I doubt simply asking them to behave in a civil manner and not hurt anyone or anything would help.

I'm still amazed that when seemingly intelligent and articulate individuals complain that their freedoms have been violated by the current administration (I always assume they are claiming that some law or another has been broken) and I ask "how have your freedoms been violated" I never receive a valid explanation of the presumed unlawful act.

I'm also a firm believer in the ability of the American people to recognize and stand up to tyranny, although considering what has been taking place in the judiciary lately, the meaning of the word revolution has a new connotation.
