It would indeed.

This whole issue of who gets to decide what is constitutioal is a huge issue, made worse by the extreme generality of the Constititution.

In fact, nobody actually believes that the Constitution should be read literally or followed strictly. Even strict constructionists don't.

Interpretation is they key.

So, who should get to interpret? If we were truly a democracy, the people would. If we were truly a representative democracy, the representatives would.

But we are neither. At the top of the decision chain is a non-representative non-elected body the closest modern equivalent to which is either the Politburo of the House of Lords.
