To Larry L and several others a few threads up --

There sure is a lot of misinformation on this thread. G* nixed using
Long March satellites after a mishap with a Long March 3B that
was carrying a SS/L built Intelsat model 708 got buried into a
hillside. One, that I might add, that was being occupied by
hundreds of locals who came out to watch the launch.

The 1st two G* launches are on Delta's followed by the Russian
built Zenit, which will loft 12 at a time. SS/L is launching a
Phillapine satellite on a Long March of the 17th (same day
as the Iridium launch). The Chinese are part owner, so the
launch provider goes with out saying. This will be the first SS/L
satellite to go on a Long March since the I-708 failure.

But more to the point, I think knee jerk comments like, "G*
will be cancled in favor of Cyberstar" are not called for. This
is obviously a "cheap shot", or completely stupid, because
the two systems are apples and oranges. One will not
compete with the other -- they complement.

Also, the G* business plan has always called for in-orbit
spares -- more mis-information.

In closing, I would like to add that both Iridium and G* will make
money. But before you are seduced by all that "cutting-edge"
technology, I would like to teach you the first thing that you
learn in engineering school:

KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid
