Hi Hawkmoon; Re: "And why is it that other parts of the world are unwilling to treat each other on a similiar basis?"
This is just your overactive imagination. All over the world people move from one country to another and are accepted, after some delay as a local. You just don't notice it because it's not broadcast on Fox News and it doesn't fit in to your limited and unrealistic view of the world. That we're even talking about this is why the US is stuck in an unwinnable war in Iraq. Like they say, you can tell a bigot, but you can't tell him much.
Well here's an attempt to tell you (which will fail, of course):
(1) Hitler was an Austrian, not a German.
(2) Churchill's mom was from the US.
(3) Stalin's native language was Georgian.
Of the leaders of WW2, only Roosevelt and Hirohito were actually from their own countries, LOL. How many examples do you want? That ideal that you say only the US possesses is actually a universal human trait that has little to do with the US.
People have been moving from one land to another, and have been accepted, for as long as the human race has existed. Why don't you read "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire", and find out how many of the Roman emperors were from Italy, LOL.
Here's some more examples:
Euler was born in Switzerland, but lived in Russia.
De Valera, the founder of the Irish Republic was born in the US. His father was Spanish surnamed.
Napoleon was born in Corsica, and spoke Corsican as a youth, not French.
Every royal family in Europe traces its bloodlines across national and linguistic boundaries.
The Popes of Rome have been from all over Europe.
No, the United States is not the only country which is made up of a melting pot. Melting is a universal trait of the human species.
For that matter, there are many Americans who have gone abroad and been accepted as part of foreign countries. A great example is the Americans who left the South after the Civil War and went to Brazil. Their descendants are still down there (but no longer own any slaves):
In a strange new land the Confederates built their last colony and held their stand where their descendants, speaking Portuguese, remain to this day. mablanentertainment.com
Emigration and immigration is a universal trait of the human species, as is the patriotic / chauvinistic / bigoted belief that one's own nation is somehow unique.
