INTC: Intel announces launch of new processors ahead of market expectations -- Digitimes

Digitimes reports that Intel will start volume production of its 90nm, 32-bit Nocona server processors with 64-bit extensions in the second quarter, according to CEO Craig Barrett at the Intel Developer Forum being held in San Francisco. In addition, Intel will add the 64-bit extensions to a number of its Xeon line, which include its Potomac and Prescott processors. According to the article, volume deliveries of the Potomac will begin in 2005. The planned launch of the new processors come much earlier than the market had expected and will deal a strong blow to the Advanced Micro Devices 64-bit Opteron and Athlon64 processors.
