STMicro opens third chip design center in India

NEW DELHI, India--Expanding its presence in a huge market, STMicroelectronics Inc. has opened its third design and development facility in India in Noida, near New Delhi.
The new wing at Noida has a built-up area of 71,200-square-feet, and will be able to house 550 additional skilled design/embedded software engineers. STMicroelectronics is also setting up a design center capable of housing 100 designers at Bangalore, India's information technology hub, to build its presence in the city.
In addition, the company has purchased 25 acres of land in Greater Noida as part of its plans for future expansion in India.
Geneva-based STMicroelectronics, which employs over 1,400 people in India, claims to have the largest semiconductor research and design operations in that country. Its Indian operations specializes in developing intellectual property (IP), system-on-chip (SoC), and embedded software. The Noida design center has played a substantial role in developing 90-nm chip designs. This work is currently being extended to the forthcoming 65-nm generation. |
