Quanta and Compal notebook shipments to pick up in February and March Huang Kung Tien, Taipei; Steve Shen, DigiTimes.com [Thursday 19 February 2004]
Notebook shipments from the top two Taiwanese makers – Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics – will increase slightly in February and climb more rapidly in March following a month-on-month decline in January, analysts said.
The declines last month came as a surprise and were largely due to inventory adjustments by notebook vendors, said analysts.
The decline in shipments as well as revenues for the month weighed down the share prices of the two companies. Quanta’s stock reached a low of NT$75.5 on February 10 from a high of NT$90 on January 9 before bouncing back to as high as NT$82 today, while Compal’s slid to a low of NT$41.7 on February 6 from a high of NT$48.7 a month earlier before closing at NT$45.9 today.
