Jacob, a nuke is just another weapon in a very large selection of types. The victims of all weapons are maimed or killed. Each individual suffers to a greater of lesser extent and is often or usually killed. Killing is the intention because it's bad to have them patched up and coming back again.
I don't think a nuke is any more immoral than a 100 kg bomb. If the bad guys use a 100 kg bomb and I pull out a nuke, that doesn't mean I'm the bad guy. They are still the bad guy, but they lose. <If your side uses nuclear weapons, then you are the bad guys. >
The determination of who is the good guy and who the bad guy is done by seeing which one is breaching free will, self-determination, voluntary exchange of value and private property. Which one is trying to establish the old chimpoid dominance hierarchy based on confiscation rather than self-determination. If both are bad guys, like Stalin fighting Hitler, then neither is the good guy. Both are bad and are just like chimp tribes fighting - no ethics or morals; just power and possession.
Not all cultures are equal. Some are superior to others. Some are more closely related to chimps than to Libertarian humans. That's most of them, unfortunately.
<Nukes are useless in our failing occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq. And they will be equally useless, to stop Jihad coming out of our real enemies, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. >
Oh I don't know about that. Suppose Islamic Jihad succeeds in nuking an American city or something serious. I suspect it might be instructive to said Jihadis if each time 50 Americans are killed, another Moslem city is warned to evacuate and then nuked, starting with Mecca.
Okay, you could fiddle with the numbers and details, but when half a dozen Islamic Jihad cities have been converted to parking lots, that would cut down the number of attacks by Islamic Jihad. Of course that would mean Americans would have to go without SUV fuel and do more walking, or Segway and bicycle riding. That wouldn't be all bad.
Better of course is to get the NUN constitutional conference underway to resolve disputes and get those good Ben Franklin economic vibes going.
