bob, They started putting, factory installed, ACs in cars in the mid 50's, I think. A little while before that happened, people could buy this thing that looked like a cylinder that would be attached in the top of the driver's side window, and would blow cool air, but not very easy to control the temp. I can remember some of the higher priced GM cars, with factory installed AC, that had two, plastic tubes on each side of the back shelf, which were shaped to throw cold air up to the front. They really looked funny, like something from outer space.
