re:This was a major issue. Iran was slowly moving towards reform. Many of the candidates that were denied a place on the ballot were reformists. In one fell swoop, the conservative Ayatollahs came in and swept the rug out from under reform.

And western reporters in Iraq actually have to ask why a new Constitution would not be driven by Sharia law.
