What if a group of homosexuals form a church that follows, say, a Christian doctrine with the exception of performing gay marriages? Would the state recognize such a marriage?

Separate but equal rarely is...

Btw: this article points out the legal stickiness of preventing gay marriage but recognizing civil unions. Apparently, it just makes the law a mess; you would have to make marriage and civil unions legally equivalent, but then how do you make them legally separate?
