I don't think the "door is closed" until Intel ships in moderate volume a chip that is at least as fast as opteron in 32 bit server functions.

True, by simply announcing Intel's acceptance of 32bit code with 64 bit extensions, AMD as tom's hardware put it more eloquently, got the wind taken out of their sales.

But intel has about 3 months grace period to walk the walk. And will intel really eat its own young?

It is a little early yet to declare success in the battlefield and an end to hostilities.

Or as The Narrator in Rocky Horror Picture Show said,
