It's clear that the crucifixion will adhere to medieval and renaissance imagery of the crucifixion, not at all to actual Roman practice,

When I first posted on Mel's movie, I knew it was going to be a major subject of conversation here. It certainly has been today!

Knowing the normal Box Office failure of this genre, I did not expect him to do this good a job of promoting it. This is turning into another example of how bypassing the Major Media with a subject they don't like can work. We just saw it with Arnold's campaign.

I don't think Mel, et al, planned it that way, but the reaction of people like Rich of the Times worked to the Movie's advantage when they went directly to the Churches. It got the Evangelicals' back up.

When I saw pictures from the Movie showing "Christ" carrying a cross, I knew it was not totally realistic. The Roman method was that the main timber was carried by the person to be crucified, and the cross piece was roped on at the site after it had been planted in the ground.
