I just purchased and installed Norton System Works 2004.
First of all, they have a new registration scheme, which I didn't know about when I bought it, that you have to buy separate copies for your main computer and laptop. This is new, and doubles the price of the product.
Second, they offer not even 24 hours of free phone or email support. My product isn't working correctly, and it's apparently my problem to spend hours trying to figure out from their web site why it's defective.
It's obvious that Symantec no longer cares about their customers. So although I've been using Norton since Peter's first tools came out, it's time to change.
What are the best alternatives to Norton?
BTW, in case anybody has encountered the same problem, what it's doing is refusing to recognize that I have updated the virus definitions even though I have. I update them, all goes as it should, but it records them still as 2003 definitions, and tells me they're out of date. Plus every other time I boot up, Antivirus comes on as disabled and crashes Eudora. So I have to boot up twice every time I boot up, and then it comes and tells me to run live update, but that still does nothing to change the virus protection date -- and I don't know whether or not it really has updated my definitions, which is scary.
