"So to be clear you think a flat tax is unfair because it taxes the top too much, right?"

You haven't even explained how you plan to do this. Not answering until you give specifics on how you would do it. You have already said that people should be taxed on wealth, which is not income. So until you explain, I will assume you are just dodging and weaving, as the left does. Think I have made my position on FEDERAL INCOME TAX (which is something we have and pay right now) pretty clear.

"Those 75% of American workers that pay more in payroll taxes than in income taxes all work"

Do you suggest they get a free ride? Note this also means they are paying less than 7 1/2% of their income to Fed Income tax. A pretty fair deal imo.

"Do you think people who work full time for $10-20 an hour are lazy somehow?"

No. For the most part, I do not. And as I mentioned, I have no problem with lazy people anyway. I'm a bit too lazy myself. Would probably be rich if I wasn't. But like my free time. Just not an attack dog like you who use dishonest tactics to say others should pay even more than they do.

"Obviously the wealthy have a lot more to lose and ought to pay more."

And they do. You call it regressive, but the top rate is 35%. That's over 1/3 of their work and sweat, and doesn't count any other taxes. And the top 1% pay 3,600% more than their individual share, which seems VERY REASONABLE to me.

"The system works great for the wealthy"

The system works pretty darn good for just about anybody who puts out the effort. That's why they are swarming over the border in the south, and why we have the highest (or nearly) standard of living for any major country (not counting the Kuwaits of the world).

"But it's Bush and the Republicans who are adding another huge benefit to LBJ's Medicare"

Like I said, it is more entitlements to buy votes. Considerably cheaper than what the dems want to do, I have heard.

"Why are you blaming me for what Bush and the Republicans are doing?"

I'm not blaming you for squat. I am a bit disgusted (notice the softening of the stance) by your income re-distribution scheme that you are reluctant to describe. And deeply suspicious of your motives considering you will not be specific, and make foolish statements like the tax code is regressive.
