God should be replaced with ourselves. We should take on the responsibilities many of us currently assign to God. I've seen no evidence of a God, other than the amazing universe we live in, which isn't a proof of God's existence. If there is a God, he seems to have left us to our own devices, as the universe seems totally neutral as to what we do. As we become more powerful and able to mold our world to our own ends, we find that the only challenge to our primacy is our own ignorance and stupidity. God won't save us, or condemn us. Only we can do that.
