That article on VA taxes missed a couple of relevant points. I haven't been following the politics closely but here is some additional info.

First of all, VA is under threat of having it's bond ratings reduced unless it gets its fiscal act together. Secondly, we just had a huge tax cut. There used to be a big property tax on vehicles--mine was around two thousand bucks--which was phased out during the previous (Republican) administration. Thirdly, VA is growing. We have almost impossible road situations. VA could spend its entire budget on roads and not keep up with the need. And last, the tech crash hit us hard. VA is a high tech mecca.
