<< If my memory serves me right DELL uses Airborne as a primary courier >>
Glad to get this discusson going, because I think it's important.
I called Dell Monday to order a new laptop computer and the first thing they told me was that the UPS strike was going to cause a delay in the delivery. How much of a delay I asked, and the answer was 2 1/2 weeks. The representative went on to describe that Dell had stopped using UPS as primary carrier two weeks ago when the strike was in its infancy and started using others, Airborne, Fed Ex, etc, But, as these carriers are trying to take up the slack from the strike, they too are overwhelmed. Now, if my figures are correct (and someone please correct if they are not so we can get this right) UPS carries 80% of deliveries of catalog, mail order, etc. Everything from flowers, candy, tools, to computers both Dell and Gateway. That's alot of slack for others (now including even the post office) to take up. Now, I'm a good loyal Dell computer customer. After reflection I've decided to go ahead and wait to get my laptop to support the company which has given me such a nice income off of playing it's stock. But is the rest of America and the world going to be loyal too? If you can go into the store and get your Compaq instantly at new competive prices are you going to wait 2 1/2 weeks?
I think it's a good topic for discussion Larry |
